This antique roof finial, also called a lamyong in Thai, used to adorn the roof of a Thai temple. It is made of hard carved teakwood that has been weathered over the years to create a natural patina. The carvings on the upper side of the piece depict the feathers of Garuda, a mythological bird that serves to guard Thai Buddhist temples.
